So, I'm just going to squee over my present favorite part of the Vocaloid fandom: VanaN'Ice. WHY? BECAUSE IT'S MY LIVEJOURNAL AND I'LL SQUEE IF I WANT TO.

VanaN'Ice is a visual kei band consisting of the Vocaloids Kamui Gakupo (Gackpoid) on guitar and vocals, KAITO on bass and vocals, and Kagamine Len on lead guitar and vocals. Their songs and videos are created by a group called SCL (Seven Color Light) Project. natsuP is the composer and arranger, haku arranges the guitar, bass, and drums, and Haruaki and Chii do illustrations/movies. (I'm officially in love with Haruaki-san's work. A secondary "Imitation Black" picture is going to become my background...probably before I go to bed. >w<)

So, I've been squeeing this group since...probably December. I saw either "IMITATION BLACK" or "Fate:Rebirth" first (I'm leaning towards "Imitation Black" because a couple people in the Hetalia fandom drew England in Len's dress, and one person also included America in the KAITO role). Then, in January, "Setsugetsuka" came out. Needless to say, I was hooked. Now, I watch the Weekly Vocaloid Rankings on NicoNico just to see how they do each week (they aren't in the top thirty anymore, but still make the list).

I came across something strange sometime later: VanaN'Ice Radio. Sadly, I haven't found it translated anywhere on YouTube even though there are Japanese is RIGHT THERE ON THE SCREEN. :< Dear YouTube translators, please get on it; fans would greatly appreciate it. Basically it's the three during a radio show. (And no, Len is NOT in a dress. Although he looks adorable in them. And then, after they read the letters, there's a drum hit into IMITATION BLACK before they answer. And why, when they sign off, Gakupo says, "Arrivederci?")

It was here that I discovered: THE CD. Can I just squee that that CD came out the day before my birthday?

I'm going to spend the rest of my time just squeeing about the sample tracks and commenting on what haku-san wrote in their blog about the tracks. Please note: Google Translate is horrible. I do not know the proper titles for tracks nine and ten, and am using a convertor to get the romaji straight.

1. ZERO
This is Len's solo track on the album. I seemed to have just realized that Len act.2 is used (since his voice sounds more robotic). There's a hit of the refrain, and it seems nice...is he singing in ENGLISH?

2. IMITATION BLACK
What is there to say? This was my first song I heard of theirs. <3 The mix feels a little different to me in the drums mostly, but there could be some in the bass and guitar as well.

3. BLOOD
This is KAITO's solo track. It definitely keeps up with the feel, and KAITO's "earlier" sound seem to suit the song quite well. I think I hear a bit of a bass solo in the end, which is appropriate.

4. Setsugetsuka
I was surprised to see this listed before "Fate:Rebirth", but whatever. It might be a little different, but there was nothing in the sample that could give it away. haku-san says that is is, so...

(NOTE: I WENT HUNTING ONTO JAPANESE iTUNES. YES. THE CD VERSION SEEMS TO BE DIFFERENT. It sounds like Len's singing in the background for the "radio-ed" parts. \o/)

5. +++
There's some "talking" in this one (if you can say that Vocaloids speak), but it still seems like an interesting track. I believe haku-san is saying that this is the "peak" of SCL.

6. DOLLS
This definitely brings things down, and sounds like another Len solo. It has a very orchestral sound to it. Supposedly, "...the lyrics [are] very painful; following the natural flow to [the] FR..."

7. Fate:Rebirth
I found out today that there was an earlier version of this song by Miku (Fate ~Unmei no Tobira~) with the same words! It explains why she appears/sings in the very beginning. This version sounds the same as the original posted video.

8. Paranoid Doll (YOUTUBE LINK)
I heard about this one on VanaN'Ice radio. It's a Gakupo solo, but Gakupo's vocals were provided by a different person (Kokutoupokky-P). I doubt that there will be any change. :)

9. Taiyou ga Shizumu Koku
Another Gakupo solo. The feel to this one feels different than that of the usual visual kei scene (reminding me of a regular rock song; haku-san says "blues", which I also hear), until we hit what seems to be the refrain.

10. Yami Nii Kierugetsu (I'm really uncertain about this one...orz)
haku-san makes a comment about envisioning Len and Gakupo playing back-to-back (I totally see it) and another about how natsuP mentioned Indie music. It definitely starts to transition back to the visual kei feel.

11. LOST LOVER
A slower song, a tragic love ballad. For some reason, it feels like it would totally work for an anime theme song. xD Forget what I said about transition to visual kei. We're slowing down. (And how can Len sing that high and not kill his voice?...oh yeah...)

12. IMITATION BLACK (Piano Instrumental)
I guess the best way to say it is that natsuP shares his piano playing skill with us? I'm really in love with this slower, melodic version of the song. There should totally be an unplugged version. HEY, natsuP! GET ON IT! :D

(I listened to the samples over here. There are also other things featured on the page, like the dolls, ...is that a badge with the three from the end of IMITATION BLACK? DO WANT. and also some of Haruaki-san's art!)

So, when I have money, I'll see if I can find the CD online or, if I'm really lucky, I'll find it at Anime North or something.

Sorry about eating up your time this evening...err, wow, it's morning already? >.<
